We are Angel AURA

"One thing sets Angel Aura apart from the also-rans: ambition. It’s an ambition you can hear, a yearning you can feel. From the epic soundscapes they produce, to the sweeping arrangements, Angel Aura sounds like a band singlehandedly trying to take the form to the next level. The moods they evoke are instantly recognizable, but the musical structures they construct are completely fresh and challenging. Meticulous in their craft, Angel Aura may grab you and shake you, but there will be nothing obvious or hackneyed in their approach. By turns abrasive and delicate, with a healthy injection of creative hooks to keep you engaged, Angel Aura were our indie breakouts of 2018. And they’re only just getting started. "

Samsara

The concept of Samsara in Buddhism refers to the cycle of life, which includes birth, living, death and returning to life. The term can be literally translated as “continuous movement.” Samsara is the continually repeating cycle of birth and death, where beings cycle through six realms of existence. This concept is closely related to the ideas of karma and Nirvana.

In Buddhist teaching, the reason Samsara exists is that people fixate on themselves and their experiences. It comes from ignorance and it causes a state of suffering and dissatisfaction. Essentially, Samsara is life on earth, filled with sorrow and pain.

“Samsara, to me, is acknowledging my feelings. The ones I may not always understand, but that always seem to creep up on me when I think I’m doing my best. When I wrote the lyrics and read over the words it was like a mirror. It was honesty and a bitter truth I had not been wanting to confront. Growth is never comfortable and this was part of it. I was reminded of life’s dualities and the changes I need to make within myself.”

- Wendolyne Barrios

“As mentioned, Samsara is the concept of the continuous cycle of life, death and rebirth, an endless wandering defined by mundane earthly existence. It is the constant dirges and drones of life, from which one can only break through power of both mind and will to achieve Nirvana: a liberation. This is the feeling I tried to evoke with the melancholic chords in a progression that sounds upbeat and optimistic. I attempted to capture realization of the inevitable suffering in life, but remaining hopeful and striving to create and build. We are all victims of life, but we are also all able to rise above, to change within and without and remove ourselves from the vicious cycle.”
